IMPACT from the RG Royal Sound Orchestra is another example of the way exotic rhythms have been incorporated into our lives. A listen to the flamenco guitar intro that segues into a tight brass and driving rhythm section on "Hotel California", or the high-note stuff from Adalberto Lara ?Trompetica´ on "My Way" and "Can´t Help Falling In Love" and you?ll get the idea. "Volare" has the superb brass section underpinned by a mambo line and then a bopish statement from the sax section. Just think of melodies like "As Time Goes By", "I Left My Heart In San Francisco", "Strangers In The Night", " New York, New York" and "Yesterday" played superbly over a red-hot flamenco/Latin beat bubbling under everything, like on "That´s The Way" with some over-drive guitar playing from Lindsey Blair. Ed Calle adds his fiery tenor saxophone solos throughout.
This is an astounding orchestra, maybe not all jazz but what they do is flawless and very danceable. A brilliant party CD because of the infectious rhythms.
